Valentine's Day At School

These are some Valentine's Day pictures I took a couple of years ago.  The "kids" haven't changed much over the years so I decided to share them.

Do you remember having a Valentine's Day card exchange and party at school?  Sister Anna runs a tight ship most days but she loves a good party too.

Valentine's Day cards were exchanged.

Everyone had fun at the party.

There was soda and cookies for everyone.

Yum!

A good time was had by all!  Happy Valentine's Day!  Betty

Finding Things In 1:6 Scale

I love finding things in 1:6 scale which is the scale for Ginny and her family.  Not too long ago I found Lego for my dolls.  Since my real life kids loved playing with Lego when they were little I had to get some for my dolls.  I think I might have found it on Etsy but I'm not 100% sure anymore.

The dolls are reproduction Vogue boy dolls and a Madame Alexander boy doll.  I had someone make the blue shorts and shirts and then I decorated them with Cub Scout insignias, made the scarfs, and decorated the hats.  Yes, my real life kids were Cub Scouts too.

Today I'm working on cleaning out a couple of closets.  I have too much stuff!  I always have trouble parting with things, but I'm going to try and be strong.  I have a donate box all ready.  Wish me luck!  Betty

The Gal That Started It All

I thought I'd introduce you to the gal that started it all.  This is the Vogue Ginny Doll that I got for Christmas 1954.  My mother had a professional photographer come to the house every year at Christmas time.  My sister and I also had birthdays (December 23 and December 29) so sometimes he came on our birthdays too.  Here is my 1954 PLW Ginny today:

I always tell people that she's worthless to a serious collector but priceless to me.  Over the years her eyebrows and lashes have faded and she's been cut open and repaired.  She was always a redhead but originally had a flip style hairdo.  As a child I cut her hair.  I found a faded doll on eBay and bought her so she could be a wig donor.  Now my Ginny has braids.  I kept her original bangs because they were long and the color matched the new wig perfectly.  She was dressed in this Whiz Kids outfit #71 that Christmas.  My sister received a blond doll in this outfit and I received the redhead.

This is a picture of me from Christmas 1954.  The Ginny doll in the carriage is actually my sister's doll.  The photographer just grabbed a few dolls for the picture and my little redhead didn't make the cut.

I hated posing for the Christmas pictures but now I'm glad I have them.  I'm glad I still have Ginny too!  Over the last 20 years I've accumulated a lot of doll friends for her but she'll always be my favorite.  Betty

Pandemic Entertainment

During the early days of the pandemic I tried to get some things done that I had been putting off.  At the time I didn't think the pandemic would go on for so long and I was enthusiastic about working on some long delayed projects.

I found a couple of wigless dolls in the back of the closet and decided to finally make them some wigs.  Years before I had bought some lambskin from a seller on eBay who also provided me with a wig pattern and directions.  I still had some left so I got to work and "saved" these poor little painted lash strung Ginnys.

Here's a couple of before pictures.  You can see the lambskin and the pattern I used.  I sewed them by hand and then glued them on their heads.

These are the two dolls with their new wigs:

They look so much happier now.  They didn't like living in the back of that dark closet.  Betty

FOR SALE!!!

I've been hoping to see the Vogue Doll Company resume production but as time went by I felt the chances of that happening were slim to none.  However, the website stayed online and that gave me some hope.  However, now when you go there it tells you that the Vogue Doll Company is for sale.

I'm hoping someone buys the company and resumes production of the reproduction Vogue Jills and Ginnys that we've come to love.  Betty

Boys Will Be Boys

I was glad when the Vogue Doll Company came out with the reproduction boy dolls.   Being a Houston Texans fan I decided one of my blond boys would be JJ Watt as a child.  I know he wasn't a Houston Texans fan back then because they didn't even exist until 2002.  That's OK because it's my imagination and if I want him to be a Houston Texans fan so be it.  I made little JJ's outfit. The other boy is wearing a Vogue outfit.

When my youngest son was little he enjoyed playing with Masters of the Universe toys.  Talk about coincidences...my boy dolls like to play with them too!  I was thrilled when I found some in 1:6 scale.  Betty

It will take time...

Some years back I had a blog on blogger.  It wasn't difficult to use.  I'd still be using that blog if I could but I can no longer post there.  Maybe it was inactive for too long?  Anyway, I decided to start a new blog but it's going to take a while to figure out how everything works now.  It's definitely changed over the years.  For some reason an enlarged photo from my last post appears at the bottom of my blog.  I have no idea why.  Did I unknowingly put it there?  Hopefully in time I'll get this newer version of blogger figured out.  Betty

I'm Back...Still Too Many Dolls and Doll Stuff!

It's been almost a year since I last posted.  I moved into this house last July.  It's a one story house which is really nice, but...
